In order to further strengthen the relations of Latin American and Caribbean countries of Petrocaribe energy cooperation mechanism, today starts the 16th Ministerial Council of Petrocaribe at the headquarters of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) in Caracas, attended by 17 delegations.
During the meeting the progress the agency has done in the regional integration field of social productive development and diversification of the regional energy matrix, in order to exploit gas resources and continue to promote the incorporation of alternative and renewable energy will be evaluated.
Additionally, the space will serve to exchange experiences that will pose new challenges and guide actions to boost the Petrocaribe Economic Zone (ZEP) and strengthening the organization as a key player in the union and development of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The event takes place a year after the 15th Ministerial Council Meeting of Petrocaribe, in which member countries celebrated the tenth anniversary of the mechanism.
Since its inception, the nations of Petrocaribe have promoted joint planning and realization of plans and projects through workspaces and discussion of geopolitical, economic and social issues, seeking to meet through a shared strategic vision, the main needs of member nations.
Petrocaribe is a mechanism proposed in 2005 by Commander Hugo Chavez, who devised a form of strategic and supportive alliance with the countries of the region, with the aim of creating a comprehensive process that promotes the elimination of social inequalities and promote quality of life and an active and effective participation of the people.
